There are about 120 Bloomberg Automated Insight stories, but a white paper, Predictive Analysis of Bloomberg Automated Intelligence from Bloomberg Quant Group, determined that not all signals are the same, with 12 of them displaying more predictive power than others. Some signals include stock trading volume anomalies, block trades, options trading volumes, implied volatility, Bollinger Bands, insider transactions and social media activity, to name a few.
Some combinations of the signals included in Streaks have proved predictive of important news events, according to the white paper.
“When BAI stories showing insider buying, high implied volatility, and unusual bond trading volume about a single large-cap company are published in close proximity to each other, M&A events are announced in the next few days about 16% of the time, which is more than three times the expected amount of announcements,” according to the white paper.
If you are a Terminal subscriber, you can see details for rules and how to set alerts, by running HELP BAI on the Bloomberg terminal. Bloomberg Terminal users can get alerts on those individual automated stories, as well. See here.
